Vision Training Course - Wednesday 6th December 2017

This is a 1 day course on vision screening in the workplace. The course will take place in Manchester.

The next course is Wednesday 6th December 2017.


The course is aimed at health professionals working in the UK occupational health setting. The course will cover:

  • Understanding the role of vision assessment  in Occupational Health practice
  • Legal requirements
  • Understanding the different types of medical conditions affecting vision
  • Understanding the variety of screening methods available
  • Interpreting vision screening results
  • Practical exercises using a variety of vision screening equipment
  • Management of abnormal vision in the workplace
  • Case examples and discussion

The course is very practical in nature and practicing clinicians will be present to discuss cases, demonstrate equipment and advise on clinical techniques.

HAVS Refresher Training Course - 3rd November 2017

This is a 1 day Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) refresher course. The course will take place in Manchester.

The course is aimed at health professionals working in the UK occupational health setting. The course will provide refresher training in HAVS, and is designed as a follow on and refresher for those who have attended the full 2 day HAVS course.

The course will cover:

  • Background to HAVS
  • Legal requirements and risk assessment
  • Health effects of HAVS
  • Health surveillance for a workforce exposed to hand transmitted vibration – tiered approach
  • Clinical assessment of HAVS cases
  • Clinical management of an individual with HAVS
  • Worked case examples
  • Demonstration of the use of vibration monitoring equipment and HAVS clinical assessment equipment

The course is practical in nature with a variety of learning techniques such as classroom teaching and small group work/case discussion.

Spirometry training course - Friday 8th December 2017

This is a one day course on spirometry and respiratory health surveillance.  The course will take place in Central Manchester, and is designed for occupational health professionals working in the UK occupational health setting. The course has been developed by the team at Healthwork and is based on the guidance and standards of the ARTP and BTS.

This is a one day course on audiometry and audiometry health surveillance.  The course will take place in Central Manchester, and is designed for occupational health professionals working in the UK occupational health setting. The course has been developed by the team at Healthwork and is based on the recommended syllabus of the British Society of Audiology (BSA) and Health & Safety Executive (HSE).

The next course date is Thursday 7th December 2017.

The course is aimed at health professionals working in the occupational health setting.  The course will provide training in audiometry, and will cover 

  • Understanding the role of audiometry in Occupational Health Practice
  • Assessing hearing loss including practical exercises with audiometers
  • Understanding types of hearing loss
  • Interpreting audiogram results
  • Hearing standards in specific safety critical roles and industries
  • Legislation on occupational noise exposure
  • Clinical and occupational management of hearing loss in the workplace

Lead & Asbestos Training Course (Monday 25th September 2017)

This new and exciting one day course is designed for occupational health doctors, occupational health nurses, GPs and health and safety professionals.  The course has been developed in a collaboration between the University of Manchester Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH) and Healthwork.

The emphasis will be on medical aspects of asbestos and lead exposures and health surveillance in line with The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations and the Lead at Work Regulations.  

Our expert educators will include an occupational hygienist, occupational physicians, HSE appointed doctors and physicians who have worked at and advised the HSE on asbestos and lead health effects and health surveillance.

This course is designed to be practical in nature and will feature small group work and workshop sessions.    The course will feature:

  • Regulatory factors
  • Occupational hygiene and risk control
  • Health surveillance and HSE appointed doctor work
  • Practical worked examples

This is a two day Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) Faculty of Occupational Medicine (FOM) approved training course.  The course will take place in Central Manchester, and is designed for occupational health doctors, occupational health nurses, technicians, GPs and health and safety professionals The course has been developed by the team at Healthwork in conjunction and with full approval of the FOM.    

The course is aimed at health professionals working in the occupational health setting.  The course will provide full training in HAVS, and will cover 

  • Legal requirements and risk assessment
  • Occupational hygiene
  • Health surveillance for a workforce exposed to hand transmitted vibration - tiered approach
  • Clinical assessment of HAVS
  • Clinical management of an individual with HAVS
  • Worked case examples
  • Demonstration of tools, measuring equipment such as accelerometers, and clinical equipment/ clinical techniques.
