Healthwork is a UK wide provider of occupational health and safety services to public and private sector organisations. The company is led by three Consultant Occupational Physicians, Dr Shahed Khan (MFOM), Dr Tok Hussain (FFOM) and Dr Shaun Austin (MFOM). In addition, we employ Occupational Health Physicians and Occupational Health Advisors. We also have an excellent support team of administrative staff at our offices in Manchester. We are committed to providing continuous training to all our staff ensuring they are always up to date with new and emerging issues relevant to occupational health and safety.
Healthwork delivers high quality innovative services at very competitive prices. Our clients benefit from a professional but genuinely personal service and have enjoyed falling numbers of working days lost to sickness or work-related injury.
Why Healthwork?
Healthwork is a dynamic occupational health provider. We are a rapidly expanding occupational health provider and now have an established and effective UK wide network of occupational health clinicians.
Our success is based on establishing a strategic partnership with our clients by providing close personal support from not only an experienced administration manager but also a senior Occupational Health Physician, who assumes the role of Chief Medical Officer. The service we provide has the intimacy of an in-house service but with the flexibility and economic advantage of an outsourced service.
The benefits we offer you:
An effective service
Put simply, we do what an occupational health service should do. The client receives timely, defensible and evidence-based medical advice covering the essentials such as fitness for work, recommendations on temporary and permanent adjustments, the applicability of the Equality Act 2010 and reference to any other health and safety regulation that may be relevant. Whether you are an experienced HR manager or a newly appointed line manager who has found herself tasked with dealing directly with medical capability issues, our reports are sufficiently detailed and straightforward to allow you to confidently manage the situation.
But our service to you does not end with the provision of a report. As part of our standard service, we will proactively contact the referrer to discuss the outcome of the consultation and answer any immediate queries. We will remain contactable until no further occupational health input is required or possible.
We offer a comprehensive range of services including pre-placement health checks, statutory health surveillance medicals, fitness for work advice, night worker health checks, drug and alcohol screening and ill health retirement assessments.
Healthwork’s clients also have access to counselling and physiotherapy services.
We have health and safety expertise and so can assist with workplace risk assessments. We are able to provide a diverse range of health and safety courses, including First Aid and Manual Handling courses.
Healthwork clients have a list of additional innovative solutions to choose from including our recently introduced now product Healthwork Direct, which is a nurse based first day sickness absence reporting service and a powerful tool for substantially reducing working days lost to sickness absence.
A cost efficient service
You will at all times have available to you the full range of services we have on offer but will pay for only what you use.
We can tailor the service model to meet your particular requirements. The model most favoured by our clients is the case management solution. One of our Occupational Health Advisers (OHA) will take all management referrals and deal with them in a manner most appropriate to their level of complexity. As our OHA’s are experienced in performing fitness for work assessments, and are well supported by the consultant Occupational Health Physicians, they will deal directly with the vast majority of the referrals and direct only the most complex and contentious of cases to a Healthwork Occupational Health Physician.
The OHA that leads on the service is referred to as the case manager and will decide whether a referral can be dealt with as a paper case alone, or whether it is more appropriate to undertake a telephone consultation, face to face consultation with a nurse or physician, a domiciliary visit or to request a GP/specialist report.
The case manager in consultation with the client may also consider referral to a counsellor or physiotherapist if it is considered that such treatment would reduce days lost to sickness absence.
Alternatively, we can offer OHP or OHA services on a sessional (morning/afternoon/full day) basis or simply on an ad-hoc, ”as and when required”, basis.
A flexible service
Any number of service models can be made available to the client. Furthermore, the service can be wholly delivered from either Healthwork or client premises, or a combination of both. Additional services or resource can be obtained at any time at times of increased demand.
A consistent service
Whatever service model is adopted by the client, and however wide the geographic location, you will receive a consistent level of service. The client’s Chief Medical Officer will ensure that Healthwork staff who operate at different locations meet regularly to agree on best practice procedures. This ensures that the occupational health service does not become fragmented.
We endeavour to provide the client with a dedicated pool of staff who will become familiar with and develop an in-depth knowledge of the culture and dynamics of the organisation. As a result, a relationship is cultivated between the client and service provider based on trust and respect. Employee confidence in the occupational health provider is consequently high leading to a high uptake in service and reduced wastage, for example through non-attendance at clinics.
