Our Services

Pre-placement Screening

Pre-placement screening procedures ensure that new employees are fit for any proposed role and also ensure that relevant legislation (such as the disability provisions of the Equality Act 2010) is considered, allowing you to consider reasonable adjustments to a role.

Typically there would be an assessment of an applicant’s completed online pre-placement questionnaire by one of our clinicians. The results of the screening assessment will be fed back to the potential employer within 24 hours. If further clinical information is required arrangements would be made to obtain this and conclude the assessment within 2 weeks.

Absence

Absence is one of the biggest costs to an organisation. The CBI has estimated that absence costs UK industry £12.2 billion per year. The commonest health conditions causing absence from work are psychological and musculoskeletal conditions.

According to UNUM (2007 survey), nearly 90% of organisations surveyed saw lost production as the largest cost arising from employee health-related issues. Most businesses (81%) thought investing in health was either cost-neutral or a positive investment. Businesses which believed the benefits outweighed the costs reported much less of a problem with sickness absence, particularly short-term absence.

According to the UNUM surveys, the most cost effective ways of managing absence are altering or reducing working hours, changing or modifying previous tasks, maintaining contact with the employee, allowing time off for appointments, and performing a medical assessment of fitness for work.

At Healthwork, we have experience of working closely with line managers, human resources professionals and senior management to tackle the problems of sickness absence. We are experienced in handling cases of sickness absence and dealing with multi-faceted problems in individual cases. Sickness absence is often related to medical, social, organisational, managerial and psycho-social factors. Our clinicians are experts at dealing with this combination of factors, and after assessing an individual employee we will produce objective occupational health reports, which help solve problems and advance a case.

Healthwork can also offer a case management approach to rehabilitate employees back into the workplace. This can include physiotherapy and counselling services, as well as facilitating access to opinions, investigations and treatment within the private healthcare sector.

We will remain in regular contact with you and act in a proactive solution focused manner when performing assessments. Our senior medical staff can also operate at a strategic level working in partnership with senior managers and HR professionals in developing strategies and policies to deal with the problems of sickness absence.

There is a particularly strong link between training line managers in managing short-term sickness absence and a reduction in short-term absence. 40% of companies who train their managers reported a decrease in all types of sickness absence. We are able to provide this training for you and your business.

Health Surveillance

We can provide any type of health surveillance you may require, together with providing advice regarding your health surveillance needs.

We have a range of online Health Surveillance questionnaires. These can be easily completed at the convenience of your managers and employees ensuring minimal paperwork and downtime. The questionnaires are processed and feedback given to the employer within 24 hours.

Typically the surveillance would be carried out by an OHA, followed by a referral to an Occupational Health Physician should an issue be identified.

We have doctors appointed by the HSE to perform statutory medicals such as lead, asbestos, and ionising radiation medicals. Healthwork can also perform off shore medical assessments (including Norwegian sector off shore medicals) and other health surveillance medicals such as health surveillance for noise, COSHH and vibration.

Ill Health Retirement

We are able to provide independent Ill-health retirement assessments, for a wide range of pension schemes.

Healthwork has particular expertise in this area and so is frequently asked to undertake complex assessments such as Independent Dispute Resolutions by the pension scheme, employer, insurance company or legal representative.

Common examples include the Fire-Fighter and Police pension schemes and the Local Government pension scheme, as well as a number of private sector pension schemes.

Fitness

Once at work, our health monitoring programmes will ensure that employees receive the appropriate health checks during their working career.

We can also provide advice regarding applying appropriate medical fitness standards for particular job roles, such as driving, working with lift trucks or working at heights.

Vaccination

Appropriate vaccination against infectious diseases is a mainstay in preventing the development of infections in employees, and is necessary to comply with COSHH legislation. We can provide advice regarding the vaccinations an individual may require for a particular job role, together with administration of the vaccine.

We can also work with you at a strategic level to provide advice regarding the need for vaccination of your staff, depending up the nature of their job roles, using an evidence based approach.

We can arrange for vaccinations such as the seasonal flu or swine flu vaccinations to be given onsite to the employees. Healthwork can provide all the necessary equipment and if required even manage the vaccination programme by raising awareness, coordinating clinics, collating data on uptake, etc.

Travel

Travel abroad has become increasingly common in modern business. The employer has a duty to ensure the health and safety of any employee who is deployed outside of the United Kingdom.

We can provide you with comprehensive travel advice, together with any appropriate immunisations that may be required, tailored to the country of destination. The service includes medical screening and counselling before and after travel. We can assist you in developing travel health policies and provide up to date health information on any worldwide destination.
